Project Overview

The GE Frame 5 Gas Turbine unit, though operational, required the OEM-recommended Liner Transition Piece Inspection (LTPI). Our team was invited to execute the job, replacing all combustion liners, transition pieces, crossfire tubes, retainers, and fuel gas nozzle tips with new components. Turbine clearances were checked and confirmed within OEM specifications. A Non-Destructive Test (Dye Penetrant) was conducted on turbine nozzles and buckets. Additional ancillary works requested by the client—including exhaust and wheelspace thermocouple replacement, installation of new exhaust expansion bellows, corrosion control of turbine panel doors, roof, and air ducts, air intake filter replacement, and repair of the hydraulic filter drain valve—were successfully completed. The LTPI outage also addressed reported oil leaks on Bearing No. 2 feed/drain line. A borescope inspection of the compressor revealed no defects, and the air inlet bell mouth and Inlet Guide Vanes were inspected. The team completed the project in 9 days with a double shift (day and night) and zero Lost Time Injuries (LTI).
